Cathy Deobler

Cathy Deobler comes to West Virginia from Los Angeles, with 32 years experience as a public school teacher in elementary and secondary schools. She has also worked as an actress, writer, director and producer of theatre for both children and adults. In Los Angeles, she founded both Dare to Dream - theatre experience by children for children and families, and Cre8tive Differences - which produced several award-winning short plays, including "Army Strong", "Jim's Gym", and "Back in the Day", which were written by Cathy.
Cathy has been in WV since August of 2018, and has been producing theatre from the day she arrived. She also keeps busy teaching theatre and stage tech at Riverside High School Her students have put on several shows for the community, including "The Christmas Angel", "The Ant and the Grasshopper", and "The Wizard of OZ". Her Riverside students have produced "A Christmas Scarol", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", several original shorts, and an improv show "Whose Line is it, Riverside?"

Jamie Smoot
Jamie is our Stage Manager, Set Builder, and Jack of All Trades. He has been with Mountain Roots since its inception in 2018. He has also played Teddy Roosevelt in "Arsenic and Old Lace", Santa Claus in "What About Mrs. Claus", and Paris in "Romeo and Juliet". He is truly a renaissance man!
Isaiah Bostic
Isaiah is a senior at Riverside High School, and is excited to be able to put his technical and design skills to good use. At Riverside, Isaiah learned to run both lights and sound, and has designed lighting and sound for shows such as "Whose Line is it, Riverside?", "It's a Wonderful Life: LiveRadio Play", and "Alice in Wonderland". As a living example of "It's all in who you know", Isaiah learned his skills from Cathy, when she taught at Riverside.
David Smith
David Smith is our resident Set Designer, MakeUp Artist, and Choreographer. He is an award-winning ballroom dancer and dance instructor who has danced all over the United States. He is also an actor and singer, who has worked on Mad Max, The Electrician, and numerous cabaret and variety stages.
